About Narraciones
Narraciones includes six stories published in Spanish newspaper El Contemporáneo between 1863 and 1865. A short title, it nonetheless features all of Bécquer’s leitmotifs, with references to Leyendas, Cartas desde mi celda and A una mujer, as well as his celebrated Rimas.
With E.T.A. Hoffmann as an inspiration, gothic mystery, love, humor and exoticism converge in this book’s vibrant and lyrical prose, making it a great choice for readers with a good command of the Spanish language.
Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer
A master of late Romanticism, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer (Spain, 1836-1870) is one of the most famous and celebrated authors across Spain and Latin America. His works (including Leyendas and Rimas) have been best sellers since their original publication in the 19th century. Often compared to Edgar Allan Poe, his natural style influenced Antonio Machado and Juan Ramón Jiménez, among others.
