About Un pobre hombre rico o El sentimiento cómico de la vida
A hard-working bank employee, Emeterio is amassing a small fortune, but has a hard time finding love, or even accepting that he might need it. As he ponders his love for Rosita, we will follow him about boarding houses, outskirt bars and the streets of Madrid, as he watches couples from a distance, in search of an intimacy that he has not been able to achieve.
Un pobre hombre rico o el sentimiento cómico de la vida (1933), is one of Miguel de Unamuno’s last novels and a Spanish classic. It is also the last book in the Amor y pedagogía and Niebla saga, and revolves around the same concepts: destiny, family and love. This book features witty dialogs and humorous situations, and Unamuno’s clear prose is accessible to people who have an advanced command of Spanish.
